Welcome Fellow Knitters and Crocheters!!

Learn how to Crochet the Wattle Stitch

Heather Fiege

The Wattle Stitch is another paired stitch. It combines the Single Crochet and Double Crochet, which are linked together with a Chain. For this stitch you will be working into the turning Chain at the end of each row.

This stitch is worked in multiples of 3 + 2, plus 1 for the foundation chain.

Hobby Lobby’s – I Love This Cotton – Lime Dot Print

Size I 5.25mm Crochet Hook

Okay, let’s begin!

Begin with your choice of yarn and size crochet hook. I personally LOVE Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton yarn. It’s super soft!

Step 1: Create your Foundation Chain. For this tutorial I crocheted 18 + 2 + 1 = 21 Chains.

Step 2: *1 SC, CH1, 1DC, in the next CH. Skip the next 2 CH. Repeat this from * until you reach the last CH.

Work 1 SC in the last CH, turn your work.

Step 3: CH 1 (counts as 1 SC), skip the 1st SC and next DC, *1 SC, CH 1, 1 DC, into the next CH space. Repeat from * to the last CH space.

Work 1 SC, CH 1, 1 DC into the last CH space. Skip the last SC. Work 1 SC into the turning CH.

Your work will begin looking like this!

Now turn your work.

Repeat Step 3 until you have reached your desired length!

Look how pretty this stitch begins to look! And what’s even better is it’s reversible, making it lovely for beginners and gives you a great stitch all around

Here is a close up of what the Wattle Stitch looks like. You can see the nice paired stitch effect taking place throughout each row.
